In 2023, Europe implemented significant changes in the transportation sector aimed at enhancing safety and efficiency in transportation. The new ADR rules (European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road) introduce important modifications:
1. Mandatory appointment of ADR consultant: Companies involved in shipping hazardous goods are now required to appoint a safety consultant, extending this requirement to one-time shipments and enterprises transporting small volumes of hazardous goods.
2. Automatic fire extinguishers and thermal protection: The obligation to install automatic fire extinguishers in the engine compartment and thermal protection has been expanded to industrial vehicles transporting flammable liquids and gases.
3. Assessment of the weight of transported ADR waste: Changes allow for the estimation of the quantity of transported ADR waste in certain cases when precise measurements are not possible.
The expansion of the Schengen Zone is also noteworthy with Croatia joining as a full member of the Schengen and Eurozone from January 1, 2023. This will facilitate the movement of transportation and eliminate controls at certain borders.
Additionally, new tachographs have been introduced in accordance with the Mobility Package. Vehicles registered after the implementation of these changes must be equipped with the new tachographs by August 21, 2023, extending the requirement to all types of transportation.
